Second Unisa National Voice CompetitionThe Unisa Music Foundation is proud to announce the long awaited Second Unisa National Voice Competition which
will take place from 8 to 15 July 2017.
The competition is being made possible by a grant from the National Lotteries Commission (NLC) and additional support from Unisa. Similar to the recent national piano competition, this competition will consist of two categories: Jazz and Classical.
South African vocalists are invited to enter for the competition no later than 24 February 2017. Candidates must submit a DVD for the Qualifying Round and approximately 20 candidates will be invited to attend the live competition in the Z K Matthews Great Hall in Pretoria in July 2017.
The age limit is 30 years.
Classical vocalists must include an aria from the 17th or 18th centuries, two art songs of which one must be in German and an opera or concert aria on their DVD recording.
Jazz vocalists must include a jazz standard (medium or up-tempo swing) that includes a minimum of 2 choruses of improvisation, a Latin American or South African jazz standard that includes a minimum of 2 choruses of improvisation and a jazz ballad that includes one chorus of improvisation.
The main prize in each category is R70 000 with the runner-up in each category winning R40 000. Special prizes will also be awarded.
“South Africa is blessed with a huge number of talented vocalists. We hope to provide these promising young musicians with a platform to improve and hone their skills as performers. The prize money will also enable the winners to further their studies,” says Prof Karendra Devroop, Artistic Director of the Unisa National and International Music Competitions.
The previous Unisa National Voice Competition was presented in 2005 and Erica Eloff was the winner. She currently enjoys a prestigious international vocal career.

SASMT Pretoria Ensemble CompetitionThe SASMT Pretoria Centre is proud to announce the first SASMT Pretoria Ensemble Competition which will be hosted in collaboration with Eduplex School.

The competition is aimed at developing young musicians through collaborative participation and by encouraging the enjoyment of performing with others. Participation is open to any school going learner up to, and including, the age of 19.

KZN Philharmonic & SASMT Young Performers 2017

The KZN Philharmonic and the Durban Centre of the SASMT provide a platform for young KZN performers to rehearse and perform with a professional orchestra, under the baton of Naum Rousine. Instrumental and vocal music students and scholars studying in KwaZulu-Natal are invited to apply.
Students who have performed in the KZN Philharmonic’s annual National Youth Concerto Festival are not eligible to offer the same instrument. Successful instrumentalists may be eligible for the KZN Philharmonic’s cadetship programme. Preference MAY be given to applicants who have not previously performed more than once in this concert. The age limit is 23 years for instrumentalists and 25 years for singers.
Applications to audition must be received by 24 March 2017.
No late entries will be considered.
Auditions will be held on Saturday 22 April 2017 in Room 503 at The Playhouse from 09h00. Entrants will be advised of the exact audition schedule at a later date. Entrants wishing to audition will be responsible for their own travel and accommodation expenses. Successful applicants can apply for assistance with costs if necessary.

Wakkerstroom Music Festival 2017 and bursary competitionWakkerstroom Music Festival celebrates classical music and art (2017).

. The Wakkerstroom Music Festival is a Non-Profit Organisation and a Public Benefit Organisation. The aim of the WMF is to promote an awareness of Performing and visual Arts in rural communities and raise funds for a bi-annual Bursary Competition.
2017 Festival Dates: 17-21 March 2017
The hills will come alive with classical music for the seventh consecutive year in the picturesque town of Wakkerstroom over the long weekend of 17-21 March 2017.

West Rand Music Festival 2017
This is an initiative founded on February 1st 1991. The West Rand Music Festival is under new management form 2012.
This is an Annual Music Festival held in May, from young to old participate.
2017 dates for the festival is 1 – 6 May 2017.
Together all musicians make beautiful music; this gift is combined with lots of fun and laughter.
Professional Adjudication takes place after each session, thereafter the prize giving ceremony is held where the participant’s certificates will be handed out.
